News:
Mag Wheel Records sadly annouces that Alex Soria of the
lengendary Nils/Chino has died.
He was hit by a train in the early
evening of Monday Dec. 13th in
Montreal. Alex was
of course the founder of the legendary band The Nils, and also played in
Los Patos, Black Sox, and
Chino.
Although he had some problems over the years, he was
truly a gifted songwriter. Excuse me Steve Earle, but I would jump on Paul
Westerberg's coffee table with converse hightops on and argue that Alex might
the best!
Above all, he was a friend of mine,
and I will truly miss him and his great music.
There will be a night of music in his honor in Montreal on March 11th featuring members of Chino playing all of Alex's favorite cover songs, John Kastner of All Systems Go doing a set, then John Kastner(Asexuals, Doughboys, ASG) fronting Carlos Soria and other Nils members palying a full set of Nils' songs.
"I think I'll go out and buy the smartest clothes, so I can talk
without much force..."
Alex Soria/Chino "World's Apart"
"Lets pretend we were joyful, like green fields in daylight." Alex
Soria/Nils "Green Fields in Daylight"
You can hear a 2 hour tribute
radio show with interviews with Carlos Soria, Jack Rabid of Big Takeover, and me
at the following link until March 20th:
